Privacy Policy — UV Index Widget & Weather Map

Quick summary
• This free app shows the UV index and displays banner ads via Google AdMob.
• No account is required. We do not run our own servers for this app.
• The app counts how it is used with Google Analytics for Firebase: which features are opened, how fast the first UV reading appears, whether the forecast loads, and app errors. It never records your coordinates, place names or searches, and these counts are not used for advertising. In the EEA/UK/Switzerland this happens only with your consent.
• Device location and chosen cities are stored only on your device so the app and widget can remember your location.
• Advertising is provided by Google AdMob, which may collect device and ad identifiers to deliver and measure ads.
• Forecasts come from MET Norway. Coordinates are deliberately rounded to about 1 km before they are sent, to obscure your exact location.

What this app does

UV Index Widget & Weather Map provides current UV index information and related guidance. The app is free to use and supported by advertising.

Information we collect

1) Information you provide

We don’t require you to create an account or submit personal information to use the app.

2) Information collected automatically through advertising

We use Google AdMob to show ads. When ads load, Google and its partners may collect information such as the Advertising ID (AAID), IP address and coarse location, device/app information, and ad interaction data. This is used to deliver, limit, and measure ads; detect fraud/abuse; and (where permitted) personalize ads. Learn more from Google: policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

3) Usage statistics (Google Analytics for Firebase)

We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used, so we can fix what fails and improve what people use. It records:

• App activity: first open, sessions and time in the app, how each visit ended (with the Back button or by leaving the app another way), app updates, and uninstalls, and the ads shown and tapped with their estimated earnings, which Google AdMob adds automatically.
• Features used: the first time in a session that a feature is opened (for example the forecast, the advanced charts, a map layer, the tour or the rate button), and how a place was picked (search, list, globe or saved place), never which place.
• Performance and errors: how long the first UV reading took to appear (in ranges), whether the weather forecast loaded or why it did not (slow, timed out, failed or offline), whether the connection was Wi-Fi or mobile, and short error codes made of the error type, file and line, never the error message.
• Settings: whether a home-screen widget is placed, the app language, °C or °F, whether Beta features are on, the screen width and text size in broad ranges, the month the app was installed, whether you have ever picked a place yourself, whether you keep the forecast or the globe on the main screen, and whether the app may use your device location (allowed, not allowed, or switched off on the device) and when that changes, never the location itself.
• Collected automatically by Google Analytics: an app instance ID (a random identifier for this installation), device model, Android version, app version, device language, an approximate location (country and region) derived from your IP address, and how you found the app: the Play Store, a Google search or another link, including the words of that Google search when Google passes them on.

It does not record your coordinates, city or place names, what you search for inside the app, saved places, the Advertising ID or the Android ID. These statistics are not used for advertising: ad storage, ad personalization and ad data sharing are switched off for them.

In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, usage statistics are recorded only if you consent in the consent form, and you can withdraw that consent at any time in Privacy options. Learn more from Google: Privacy and security in Firebase.

4) Location (optional)

If you enable location permission, the app uses your device’s location to calculate local UV information. You can deny or revoke this permission in Android settings and choose a city manually instead.

The latest device coordinates and cities you choose to save are stored locally in the app’s private storage so the app and widget can restore your location. They are not sent to us or to Firebase. You can remove this local information by clearing the app’s storage or uninstalling the app.

To produce the forecast, the app sends coordinates to MET Norway. They are deliberately rounded to approximately 0.01 degrees (about 1 km) to obscure your exact location, and are used only to retrieve temperature and cloud forecast data. Requests also reveal your IP address. MET Norway states that its API logs contain IP addresses and requested coordinates, and that these may be kept for up to 90 days. Legal bases & regional details

EEA/UK/Switzerland (GDPR)

We use Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP) to obtain consent for ad purposes and for usage statistics when required. You’ll see a consent dialog on first launch in these regions. Your choice controls what data is used for advertising and whether usage statistics are recorded. To change your choice later, open the app → Settings → Privacy options.

Canada (PIPEDA and provincial privacy laws)

Location permission is optional and is used for the app’s UV features. Usage statistics are collected as described above and contain no location or place names. Ad-related collection by Google is limited through the consent and privacy controls described above, where applicable.

United States (CCPA/CPRA)

We do not sell your personal information in the common sense of the word. For advertising, Google may process your device data to show ads; you can limit ad personalization at the system level (Android settings: Google → Ads → reset/delete Advertising ID).

Children’s privacy

This app is not directed to children under the age of digital consent. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Data sharing

We share data with Google AdMob solely to serve and measure ads. We use Google Analytics for Firebase as a service provider to produce the usage statistics described above. We send rounded coordinates to MET Norway solely to retrieve forecast data. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share data with other third parties except as necessary for app functionality, advertising, compliance, or legal obligations.

Data storage & retention

We do not run our own backend for this app and do not retain personal data on our servers. Saved locations remain in the app’s private on-device storage until you replace them, clear the app’s storage, or uninstall the app. Ad data handled by Google follows Google’s retention policies. Usage statistics are kept by Google Analytics for up to 14 months and then deleted automatically; reports that only contain totals may be kept longer. We also keep a copy of these usage statistics, linked only to the random app instance ID (no name, contact details or coordinates), for up to 5 years to understand how the app is used and to improve it. Weather forecast data may be cached locally on your device for a short time to improve performance and reduce repeated requests.

Security

We rely on platform security features (Android permissions, transport encryption) and reputable partners (Google AdMob, Google Analytics for Firebase and MET Norway). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we strive to use commercially reasonable measures.

Your choices

• Ad consent & preferences: Where available, use the in‑app Privacy options to review or change your advertising choices.
• Limit ads tracking: On Android, you can reset or delete your Advertising ID in system settings.
• Usage statistics: In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, withdraw your consent in Privacy options. Anywhere, clearing the app’s storage or uninstalling the app starts a new app instance ID.
• Permissions: You can revoke location or other permissions in Android settings at any time.
• Local location data: Clear the app’s storage or uninstall the app to remove saved locations from your device.

International transfers

Your data may be processed by Google or MET Norway on servers located outside your country. These providers use their own safeguards where applicable. See Google’s policy for details: policies.google.com/privacy.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll post the new version in this location and update the “Effective date” above. Your continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
